2006 Irish Winter Downhill Series - Round 3
"The third event of the series was held at Ravensdale Forest, Co. Louth, it is the only event of the four part series to be held south of the border in the Republic of Ireland. The track was one of the best of the series so far with a only a few slow sections on it. In the Juniors category Leo Gorman came in 1st with Henry Aiken 20 seconds behind in 2nd. In the Ladies division Lee Parr was the only woman to compete so she took an automatic 1st place but she still gained an impressive time on the course that many of the other competitors would be proud of! And in the Seniors category Brenton English took 1st place, Nick Humes took 2nd and Dermot Higgins took 3rd place only 2 seconds behind."

2006 FRENCH KITEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS
"The French Kite Mountainboard championships was probably the biggest and best land kiteboard event to date. The location was at Berck Sur Mer which is on the north coast of France about 2hrs west of Calais. Berck is an ideal spot for kiting. A huge flat, hard packed beach with enough room for at least 200 kiters to ride on safely.
On the first day of the event kiters were blessed with some clean wind blowing in at around 15 knots - ideal. First up were the French men. The level of riding was impressive to say the least, kite-loops, handle passes and board off variations were all being thrown. Comp 6 rider Olivier Garret (MBS Europe and Best kites team rider) was on a mission and showing the foreigners (as the non-French were labelled) exactly how it was done. Later on in the day the wind dropped and some heavy rain came in. This however did not stop the event. All the riders at Berck were dedicated and continued to fly under-powered in some torrential rain. The wind from time to time came back and kept the spirits high!
Next up were the Girls (French and foreigners). Natalie Reeves (MBS Europe and Flexifoil team rider) showed what she was capable of with some nice big air variations and spins on her New MBS Vixen. Her Skills won her the impressive title of "European Ladies Champion".
The rest of the Men (Foreigners) were up next. Core 8 rider Mark Berry (MBS Europe and Flexifoil team) was kite looping and performing some insane spins as always getting himself 3rd place. Diarmuid Higgins was going big, kite looping and showed some awesome style getting 2nd place. Lewis Wilby (Flexifoil) was laying it down with some awesome board off variations and took 1st place.
The battle for overall European Champion was a showdown between Lewis Wilby and Olivier Garret and hats of to them both because they were both throwing some pretty sick moves down. Lewis however had the edge and got himself crowned as the "European Champion" with Olivier coming in 2nd.
The wind was Pumping on Sunday and the Kite-Cross competition started first thing. Kite Cross is basically circuit racing with some obstacles in the way for the riders to jump. The races were pretty interesting, with a few good crashes and collisions for entertainment. The official results haven't been posted yet but will be up on www.opaleglisse.com soon for those who wish to see them."

2006 NABX - Ivanpah Dry Lake Bed, NV
The North American Buggy Expo or NABX was a sheer blast. Buggiers and kiters from all over the world came for some serious wind powered fun. The MBS Stunt team even made an appearance throwing backflips and rail slides in the middle of a giant dry lake bed. Among the highlights was the Freestyle Kiteboard competition thrown on Friday night. There were many amazing riders but Alex Brown was tops. Stay tuned to MBS.COM for more photos and results from this great event.

Ali Kanno - Hawaii
This guy never stops riding, and never stops sending in sick shots. Thanks Ali!

NOSE GRAB - Beginner to Intermediate Trick Tip
Simple grabs are a mainstay of freestyle riding. You can spin and flip all you want but a solid grab with good amplitude and a stomped landing goes a long way.
Step 1: Find or build a decent sized jump. A good-sized jump for a solid grab is one where your time in the air is at least 2 seconds. Become familiar with this jump and be able to do a nice floaty straight air with a solid landing first. As always make sure to be wearing the proper protective gear like a helmet and pads and also make sure your landing area has a clear and safe run out. If there is a question on the run-out are always make sure you have a friend who is spotting that area.
Step 2: As you begin to jump and are leaving the lip (the end of the jump) concentrate on being centered on your board at first. Once you are nearing the apex (highest point) of the jump reach forward and grab the front truck. Do this several times. Get the grab, stay centered, let go and land.
Step 3: Now start to tweak the grab and put some style behind it. What I like to do is as I am leaving the lip of the jump I keep my board in that "pointing upward" position. This way the front truck is nearer to my hand, I can hold the grab longer and it accentuates the look of this grab.
Step 4: When you master the first three steps then try to combine this grab with another grab or incorporate it into a 180 or 360 spin. I like to do a front truck grab into a back truck grab. Good luck and have fun.
Send us shots of you doing a Front Truck Grab.
