Gene was psyched to be last month's winner of the MBS Comp 6. Make sure you have a chance to be this month's winner by signing up for the sweepstakes.

Here's what Gene had to say:
" I`m 40 years old, I`ve been riding for nearly six years. I ride any place or terrain, but my favorite places are, The Jewell in Kansas and The U.S. OPEN in Snowmass. I am so blown away to win this. I hear that this board may be the ultimate Big Air board, especially for my size. And killer for the skateparks. Wow I totally can`t believe I won. MBS ROCKS !!!!!!!!!"

** A reminder to all sweepstakes entries: Drawing will occur on the 1st business day of each month. So be sure to check your email regularily so you don't miss out on being notified. The first two people drawn in May's sweepstakes didn't respond back to our notification email so we had to keep picking, and lucky for Gene he got back to us quickly. MOUNTAINBOARDING IN THE NEW YORK TIMES!!

A big thanks goes out to Don Baker, Ben Livingston, Garrett Troop and Erik Carlsen for being such great mountainboard ambassadors. With over 1.2 million daily copies, The Times has the highest circulation of any seven-day newspaper in America. Click here for the complete article. You might have to become a member to see this page but it is a free signup. The more hits to this page increase the likelihood that they will do another story on mountainboarding in the future. This link should be active for years, as in hundreds of years.

MOUNTAINBOARDING IN THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE!!

On the same day as the NY Times piece another great article on mountainboarding was published on the opposite coast, in San Diego. Chris Farmer did an awesome job on this story and took some really good photos. Click here for the complete story.

LEARN THE BASICS OF KITE GROUNDBOARDING.

Check out Kiteboarding Magazine's June/July issue where MBS Team Rider Wes Matweyew explains the essentials of learing to kite with a mountainboard. Make sure to check out the latest MBS ad while your at it.

Basics of Kite Groundboard by Wes Matweyew

Start with your board upwind and launch your kite as normal to a neutral position over your head. Step back to your board with the front tip of the board pointed in the direction you want to dive the kite. Step onto the board while maintaining the kite's neutral position. Dive the kite in the direction your board is pointing and ride away.

Essential Tips:

1. Be comfortable flying your kite and using its safety features.

2. Be able to ride your mountainboard kiteless on flat or slightly hilly terrain.

3. Wear shoes, pads and a helmet.

4. Fly in steady lighter wind or on a much smaller kite than you would use on the water. A kite size ranging from 3-5m is a good size to start with.

5. Choose an area with a fairly firm surface, such as a hard beach, with plenty of room and no obstacles.

6. Give yourself about three line lengths of space in all directions. You can shorten your lines to allow this safe zone.

7. Lower the board's tire pressure to help control your rolling speed or to increase your float in softer terrain.

GIVE US YOUR DIRT!
We want your artwork, photos, news, crazyness, strangeness, local events, stickers in odd places, local riding spots, you name it. If it has anything to do with mountainboarding or MBS we'd love to post it. Please send anything cool to Jason Lee for possible inclusion in future Rider eNews.

THE MOUNTAIBOARD OLLIE!

A mountainboard ollie is a very basic maneuver but a very important one as well. It is more similar to a snowboard ollie than a skateboard ollie in that you get your spring from flexing the deck rather than tapping the kicktail.

Step 1: - Start in a centered stance. You can do this standing still but with a bit of speed will make it easier.

Step 2:
- Lean back onto your rear wheels flexing your deck. The further you lean the more flex you will get but don't lean so far back that you flip over.

Step 3: - Right after you lean back and get a good flex in your deck launch yourself upwards and a bit forward.

Step 4: Ride Out

A mountainboard ollie is a good maneuver to know in order to ollie up curbs or over obstacles. Experieced riders will use an ollie right at the top of a jump lip to get even more air.

Variations: Mountainboard Nollie - An ollie using the front wheel to compress instead of the rear wheel.

F3 BINDING MAINTENANCE!

One thing people might not realize is that there is a bolt holding your F3 buckle onto the F3 binding pad. Occasionally this loosens and the buckle can get a little out of alignment with the binding strap. I'd reccommend tightening this every other ride for a secure fit.

WIPER REPAIR USING MBS STICKER

Now everyone knows that one of the most important items to have in your toolbox is duct tape. But when you're out of duct tape and your wiper blade falls off in the middle of a rain storm we've found that the new MBS sticker works quite well holding the blade onto the wiper arm. Or at least long enough to make it to the nearest gas station. Get your new MBS Sticker here.

Send us your Tech Tips or cool ways to tweak your board to jlee@mbs.com and we'll post them in future eNewsletters.

Q: I'm 250 pounds and have been snowboarding for over 5 years. What's the best board for me?

Bernie Keller - Waynesboro, Virginia

A: Hey Bernie, Although you could probably do fine on the Comp 16 or the Pro 16 I'd reccomend the Comp 26X. It's the largest board in our lineup and comes installed with a V5 brake system which makes it great for summer resort riding.
