EVENT REPORTS:
Dirtstar Gathering - Salt Lake City, UT
"I had a lot of fun even riding in the rain....Thanks to MBS, GI, and Salty Peaks. But mostly thanks to Van The Man. It was fun and I would love to do it again. The House/ Condo was super sick, along with the spots to ride. It was the perfect way to end a great season if you ask me. Also thanks to Lisa for the food. I hope we can do something like this next year." Devin G. - Captain Insane-0

Van DeWitt jumping the Gap at Tanner Park

White Air Extreme Sports Show - UK
With a 20' roll-in and 6' kicker set with a 20' gap the MBS demo team took the top three places and best trick of the weekend. A rider judged comp saw Renny Myles, Joe Dickson and new signing Tom Read impress the crowds with top tricks and sick style. Joe was corkin' his 540's and Renny spining massive 360's and loads of coping tricks on the quarter pipe including a 270' to truck stall off the booster box. At the end of the session the best trick was won by Tom Read with huge back flip 180's under flood lights. - Report by AJ Watkins

Silly Hill Mountainboard Contest - Czech Republic

Rider: Martin Zelinger Photo: Jirka Tarant
"After almost a year of hard work we built the first Czech mountainboard park called Silly Hill and we could finally organize a contest. Only one contest in our county this year was in expectation of many riders and they've got an opportunity to compete against each other." Click here of the whole story by Vampy

Pro Rider Leon "The Robot" Robbins - Halloween costume.

Leon said the only disadvantage of this costume was the fact that it was nearly impossible to hold a beer.

HOW TO DO A DIRT POWERSLIDE
A powerslide is one of the most basic but yet important mountainboard manuevers. Before the advent of a hand-held braking system the only way to really stop was to inititate a hard powerslide. As well, ripping a powerslide is just plain cool. Throwing dirt and debris into the air as you finish in a cloud of dust. Not a bad way to come to a stop.
Step 1: Carry a bit off speed into this manuever. If you are not going fast enough you won't be able to make your board slide out.
Step 2: Start initiating your turn by leaning heel-side. In this example Joel is riding regular foot and is reaching down and grabbing his toe side edge of his deck.

Step 3:
Complete your slide by continuing to carve in your original direction and at the same time taking a bit of the pressure off your back wheels thus allowing the "slide" to happen.

Next step: Try your powerslides on all types of terrain including grass and pavement.

PREVENT FLATS USING "SLIME" PRODUCTS.
The best way to fix flats is to prevent them from happening in the first place. There are several products on the market but the fine folks at Slime have got it pretty dialed in. Their SLIME Tube Protector is a lightweight durable strip of extruded polyurethane that fits between the tire and the tube. It protects from nails, glass and thorns. Spend less time working on your board and more time riding it.

Q: "What are the most important pieces of protective gear to wear while mountainboarding?" Ryan Blankinship, Porland, OR
A: We reccommend wearing it all. Helmet, Elbow Pads, Wrist Guards, Gloves, Knee Pads, Long Sleeve Shirt and Long Pants. This way you are covered for any level of riding. But if I we're to only have two pieces of equipment to wear it would be #1 Helmet and #2 Gloves. That way you can always lay down a hard powerslide to stop yourself.
