Hey Riders!
Welcome to the Fall riding season. At least to all you Northern Hemisphere riders. The colors of the leaves are starting to change and the temperature cools down making it one of the best riding times of the year. September was an action packed month for us. Thanks to all the riders who sent in shots for this month's eNewsletter.

SEPT'S SWEEPSTAKES WINNER - Ben Wagner of Gilbert, AZ
Ben was psyched to be this month's sweepstakes winner. Here's what's going on in Ben's mountainboard world.
"I started mountainboarding in Georgia a few years ago but recently moved to Arizona. The places I've found that are good to ride in AZ are many of the hiking trails around Payson and a place off the highway heading east out of Payson that I think may have been an old gravel pit. Also the areas around the Salt River and Saguaro Lake are scenic and decent rides. My favorite close place is The Lost Dutchman State Park."

HOW TO DO A SLIDE 180 - Slide 180s are very similiar to nose-roll 180s covered in August's eNews except your wheels are always on the ground.
Step 1: Head into the manuever with a good amount of speed. The faster you go the easier the trick will be. Additionally, the more air in your tires the easier the slide will be as they grip less on pavement. Pre wind your body in the opposite direction as the way you want to eventually slide.
Step 2: As you now throw your body/board into the direction of the 180 apply pressue to the front of your body and let off pressure on the rear of your board.
Step 3: Once you are near the full 180 rotation apply pressure evenly to the front and the back of the board and ride out in the opposite direction you started.
Variations: Slide 180s are a lot easier on dirt than on pavement but on pavement you get a nice screeching sound of the rubber burning.

A GREAT TIP FOR INSTALLING BEARINGS INTO HUBS
MBS pays strict attention to maintaining tight manufacturing tolerances on all parts. This is one of the secrets to producing the highest performing mountainboards available anywhere in the world. However, these tight tolerances can make it difficult for end-users to assemble some parts by hand. One example of this is fitting bearings into MBS Rock Star or Tri-spoke hubs. But one way to overcome this difficulty is to use your MBS Matrix truck as a jig to help press the bearings into the hub holes. To do this follow these instructions:
Step 1: Remove your existing hub from an axle. Slide your bearing onto the axle.

Step 2: Slide your hub over the axle and onto the bearing.
Step 3: Press down on the hub with both hands.
Step 4: Remove the hub from the axle and check that the bearing is nicely seated in the hub.
Step 5: Repeat for the remaining hubs and bearings.

Q: "Who was the first person on record to do a 360 on a mountainboard?"
Delbert Youngston, Plainview, Texas
A: That would be Whitney Lewis of Vail, Colorado. It was getting near dark and riding one of the early 132cm frame boards Whitney made it all the way around and rode it out. It seems easy these days but back then it was quite a feat. Whitney will go down in the history of mountainboarding as one of the early pioneers.
