SEPTEMBER'S SWEEPSTAKES WINNER - Kristin White, Belgrade, MT
"I’m looking forward to riding my new Vixen! But it’s going to be hard to get a turn on it - between my friends and my husband I’ll have to remind them that I won it! I’m looking forward to kiting on it. With the closest water 1 hour away and only 6 months of snowkiting every year this board is going to get a lot of use. We have 2 excellent grass fields with plenty of wind minutes away. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have my own mountainboard! Thanks MBS! "

"....The racing was made even more exciting as the riders had to complete a combination of boarder cross and freestyle inthe same event. Not only was their position across the line taken into account, but they were also judged on the tricks that they performed on the final jump. This made for spectacular viewing with our top riders Tom Read and Joe Dickson pulling off back flips......"

12th Annual High Drive Ultimate Downhill - Perfect
Perfect High Drive weather meaning slightly drizzling rain, temperature hovering around 40 degrees, foggy, leaves still changing but mostly on the ground. With around 15 hard core riders ready to get some last-of-the-season turns, spirits were high and the riding was wet but perfect for leaving that beautiful carving track. PMC made his riding comeback bringing out the 8' 6" board dubbed the "Mini Dragon". Patrick McConnell and Benton Jackson took 1st and 2nd place respectively. Hope to see everyone next year.

HOW TO DO A BACKFLIP by Dave Stiefvater
****CAUTION!****ADVANCED TRICK!****WEAR COMPLETE PROTECTIVE GEAR***
So you’re ready to take it to the next level? You feel you've mastered 360s in both directions with an assortment of grabs? Your friends "ohhh" and "ahhh" at your twisted styley 540s? There is no jump you wouldn’t huck yourself over? Now you want to go inverted? Here's a few things that I think will help you on your Backflip quest.
Pre Dirt:
Here are a few ways to work your way up to the dirt:
- Make sure you can do a basic backflip on a trampoline without a board on your feet.
- Try doing a backflip on a snowboard in the snow.
- Try it on a mountainboard but jump into a lake or pool.
- Try it on a mountainboard but jump into a foam pit. A lot of skateparks have foam pits.
Master all these techniques before trying the real thing.
Scout Your Jump:
Your jump needs to be large enough to have about 1-2 seconds of hang time before landing and should put you about 5 feet or more into the air. Lippy jumps make flipping easier to learn because they are already throwing you into the upward and backward direction.
Mental:
Two keys elements to this trick are absolute commitment and leading with your head…Once you commit to do the flip, do NOT stop and as you have learned with your spinning jumps like 360s and 540s if you lead with the head your body follows.
Now let's give it a try.
Roll into the jump with adequate speed to clear the jump and get the needed height. The bigger you go the more time you will have to make the full rotation.
Just as your front wheels pass the top of the lip lean back and look back…way back...like you're in a limbo contest, pretend like you want to see the back of your shoes.
Keep your eyes open but don’t get lost staring at the sky, as you start to come around start looking for the ground and spot your landing and begin to bring your feet down.
Here comes the hard part, you've got to make sure the board is lined up so you can ride out of it. A lot of people tend to twist a bit in the air. This will come with practice. Different people have different flip styles, some grab toe-side or do a front-truck grap to keep the board in line. You will shortly find what is the best for you.
Now stomp it and ride away.
Look at you! You got a hot new trick to show off to your friends. Next step, get the grab for extra bragging rights.
