AUG'S SWEEPSTAKES WINNER - IVAN KIESERG OF NANAIMO, B.C.

Ivan was psyched to be this month's sweepstakes winner. When asked how he got involved in mountainboarding this is what he had to say.

"
It all started by being sent to Northern Alberta to work at the Tar Sands. I was sad to leave B.C. and come to this place, but a snowboarding buddy from home was up here and he cheered me up by saying “don’t worry dude, when it snows, I have a kite, and we can ride the frozen flat stuff too". It was summer though, and I was jonesing. We did some homework, and discovered that we could maybe score a couple of MBS boards down south. We did a road trip, and got the last two Ambush Warriors in town. Now we are ripping everything we can find, summer is way cooler, and the MBS boards are sick. Then, I got an email telling me I won a board…I almost crapped my pants!!! Now life in this place just got even sweeter, and I can’t wait to go home to BC after this job and really tear it up."

CAMP JEEP 2005 - Jack Frost Resort, PA - Aug 12-14
A big thanks goes out to Jon Sever, Mark Smith, Scott Hunter and Jon Diurba for putting mountainboarding's best foot forward and teaching over 500 people how to surf the dirt. Thanks guys.

"Dear MBS,

I just wanted to drop you a note to commend your team that worked at "Camp Jeep" this past weekend.  Our 5 year old boy has fallen in love with the sport of Mountain Boarding and it is due to the wonderful inspiration and support he received from Scott Hunter, Jon Diurba and Mark Smith.  We strive to surround our son with positive role models and we found this from the MBS team.  Our son is in awe of both Jon and Scott, both who he conned into carrying his board up the ramp for him.  Throughout the three days of Camp Jeep we spent many hours at the Mountain Board area and I had the opportunity to watch your team in action.  I was impressed with the enthusiasm and professionalism they displayed with every child, teen and adult.  Their goal was to get each person down some sort of hill and I think they accomplished that!  Because of their great attitudes and the love they reflected for the sport, our child will be getting a MBS board for his birthday in October and he told us some day he will be teaching kids how to ride at Camp Jeep! It is not very often that companies get to hear the good things, and we wanted to let you know how inspirational and what positive role models your team was. We thank you and your team for helping us create positive experiences for our child.

Sincerely, Mary Ann, Ed and Sam (will you carry my board?) Briggs"

BOARDSTOCK - Clear Lake, CA - Aug 20-21

It's Boardstock Bitch!! Was the cry heard on site all weekend.  It was without doubt the ultimate no-holds barred joint demo of all time. Imagine freestyle motoXers disrespecting an 80 ft. do-or-die gap over the pavement backflips and all.

But the real crazyness begian when .................

French Championships Round 2

La Loge des Gardes, Massif Central - August 13th-15th

Day 1 - BoarderX  - With around 50 riders fighting to race down the 400m

boarderx course there was some fierce riding from all. MBS team rider Nico Maldonado just managed to outpace local team rider Victorian.

Day 2 - Slalom started early on the slippy 500m Giant Slalom, with many

wipeouts, MBS managed to grab the top 4 places again with Nicolas Boudet

from Moulins taking 1st place. In the afternoon the freestyle was a great display with some huge backflips from local riders and MBS team riders Diego and Nico pushing the limits of style, tricks and size. In the end local rider Victorian clinched it with a huge Backflip.

French Championship Round 3

Lans en Vercors, near Grenoble, French Alps - August 20th-21st

Day 1 - Slopestyle - With a small dirt jump leading into a huge kicker with a 10 foot table, there was a spectacular display of tricks each rider pushing the next to go bigger and better, with MBS taking 3 of the top 4 spots and a local rider taking 1st.

Day 2 - Freeride - Once again the rain caused a delay, but with mad keen for it riders the racing began. A long grassy track littered with rocks was made to look easy as 4 riders battled it out in the rain and dirt.

Reports by Jez

MBS Europe sent a team of 4 riders over to support and compete in the Adventura Italian Downhill in Cortina,Italy situated 1500m up in the Dolomite Mountains. There were three days of riding - a four man downhill over rough grassy terrain, a 2km run of pure downhill/point to point style timed runs over very rocky terrain and a freeride freestyle comp. There were 25 riders competing in various disciplines with coverage from Sky TV. The top riders that weekend were reaching speeds of 50mph and riding 2km downhill averaging speeds of 35-40mph. A top weekend was had by all, definitely one to put in your diary's for 2006.

Report by Oli

AJ Watkins & Leon Robbins drove over to France to support Team Vikings with a competition in Fecamp. 35+ riders turned up at the event to compete in Freestyle, Downhill & Dual Slalom. A great display of riding from the French made for an action packed weekend. Leon & AJ also started Mountainboard Trials on an MBS Comp 6 over pallets & logs! Is this a new discipline for the future?

HOW TO DO A FLATGROUND BACKSIDE 180

Step 1: Come into this trick with a moderate amount of speed and wind your body in the opposite direction you want to spin. In this case Joel is pre-winding his body to his left but he willwant to spin back to his right.

Step 2: Now lower your center of gravity a bit and start releasing your body in the direction you want to spin.

Step 3: As you start to spin pop into the air and start looking into the direction you want to go.

Step 4: Now start estimating how much more you need to hold onto your spin and adjust your body to come down.

Step 5: Try to land exactly 180 degrees from the where you started in step one. The closer you are to a true 180 the easier it will make riding away.
