Are your bearings running slower than they used to when your board was new? The answer is probably "Yes" if you've been doing any real mountainboarding at all. This is the nature of our sport - STUFF GETS DIRTY. The following MBS Tech Tip shows you the best way to restore your bearings to their original speed (and even make them faster depending on which lubricant you choose to use.
Step 1: Prepare a work area in a well ventilated spot. Fumes are toxic so this is very IMPORTANT!
Step 2: Remove black rubber shield from bearing.
Step 3: Soak your bearings in solvent such as turpentine or gasoline to remove dirt grime and old grease.
Step 4: Apply the oil or grease of your choice* to bearing. Oil will be faster but needs to be replaced more often to avoid wear to the balls. Grease lasts a long time, but is slower.
Step 5: Press black rubber bearing shields back into place.
Step 6: Reinstall bearings in board and go faster than you've ever gone.
* MBS reccomends visiting your local skate shop to see what lubricants they carry. Some good products to look for are BSB High Speed Lube, Bones Speed Cream and Sonic Super Oil.
