Disassembling Stubborn MBS Rock Star Hardware - By Joel Lee
If you've ever had a rockstar nut spin within the hub housing that holds it in place, you know that this can be a frustrating experience - until now! An easy solution to this problem is to put the hub in the fridge or freezer for an hour or so, then try to disassemble the hardware again. This will do two things. First, it will make the nylon hub material stiffer which will give it more resistance to the spinning nut. Second, it shrinks the material around nut, increasing the grip even more. Nine times out of ten, this will give your hub the extra strength it needs to stop the nut from spinning.
When re-assembling your hubs, we suggest that you move the nuts to the opposite side of the hub. For instance, if your rock star nuts were originally in the inside rim, you would remove them then press them into the outside rim. This makes sure that you are not putting the nut back into the same housing that was potentially damaged by the spinning nut.
